Froma Walsh is a Professor in the School of social service Administration and Department of Psychiatry at the University of Chicago and Co-Director of the Chicago Center for Family Health. She is past Editor of the Journal of Marital and Family Therapy and currently serves on the Board of Directors of Family Process journal.
Dr. Walsh has developed a strengths-building Family Resilience model for counseling and prevention efforts to enhance the ability of couples and families to rebound from crises, weather persistent adversity, recover from trauma and loss, and deal resourcefully with disruptive life challenges. Over 45 publications include: Strengthening Family Resilience; Normal Family Processes (Guilford): Growing Diversity and Complexity (3rd. Ed. Guilford, 2002); Living Beyond Loss: Death in the Family (Norton); Women in Families; Chronic disorders and the family; and Spiritual Resources in Family Therapy (Guilford).
She has served AFTA as Secretary, Board Member, and Chair of the Bylaws, Credentialing and Career Development, Family Policy, and Annual Meeting committees. She received AFTA’ s Award for Distinguished Contribution to Family Therapy Theory and Practice in 1995.
