Gonzalo Bacigalupe is Associate Professor and Director of the Family Therapy Program at the
Graduate College of Education, University of Massachusetts Boston; Research Professor, Family Medicine
& Community Health, University of Massachusetts Medical School; and an Invited Professor at the School of
Psychology, Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia (UNED), Madrid, Spain. He is Co-Senior Editor
of the Journal of Systemic Therapies, and a member of the Editorial Boards of the Journal of Marital & Family Therapy,
Journal of Trauma Practice, and Qualitative Research in Psychology.
He is a Clinical Member and Approved Supervisor of the American Association of Marital and Family Therapy.
Gonzalo is the 2006 recipient of the Randy Gerson Memorial Grant for Couple, Family, & Multigenerational Processes
awarded by the American Psychological Foundation for his research proposal "Gluten-free diet adherence among families with a
celiac disease child." He was Fulbright Senior Research Scholar at the Family Therapy Program, Hospital St Creu & St Pau,
Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona. He is presently pursuing a Masters in Public Health at Harvard University. His
scholarship has focused on clinical work with bicultural couples and families, collaborative consultation and supervision,
family health psychology, health access for immigrants and health access disparities (chronic pain, medication strategies and
literacy, mental health, asthma, and autoimmune gastrointestinal disorders), and qualitative data analysis software.
Dr. Bacigalupe is the former Chair of AFTA's Larger Systems Committee (2001-03), and served on the Board from 2001 to 2004.
