Biography

Donald A. Bloch, M.D.Donald A. Bloch, M.D.
Past President, 1997-1999

Don Bloch is presently in private practice in New York City. He is trained as a physician, psychiatrist, psychoanalyst, and family therapist and has been an Editor of Family Process and Family Systems Medicine for 13 years in each instance. He began work with Nathan Ackerman in 1965 and was Director of the Ackerman Institute from 1972 to 1991. His special interest is in families as they interact with the health care system. He is a founder, and presently completing a term as Co-Chair of the Collaborative Family Health Care Coalition. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Minuchin Center in New York.

He is the co-editor, with Robert Simon, of The Strength of Family Therapy: The Selected Papers of Nathan W. Ackerman (Brunner/Mazel) and has numerous publications in the field.

A Charter Member of AFTA, Dr. Bloch also served on its Board of Directors and as Chair of the Awards, Nominations, and Credentialing & Career Development Committees. He received an Award for Distinguished Professional Contribution to Family Therapy in 1982.
