Richard Chasin is Associate Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard and was Co-Director of the Family Institute of Cambridge during 1980-93 and 1996-1998. Together with Henry Grunebaum, M. D., and Judith Platt, Ed.D., he has produced Harvard's Annual Couples Therapy Conference since 1984. With Grunebaum and Margaret Herzig, he co-edited One Couple, Four Realities: Multiple Perspectives on Couples Therapy (Guilford, 1988). His contributions include the use of action methods in family therapy. He has written articles, some with Sallyann Roth, LICSW, on action methods and narrative therapy. Since the early 1980s he has applied family therapy methods to larger system conflicts. With Rick Lee, Ph.D., in 1984, he designed the psychological component of the Negotiation Workshop, a very large, popular, all-department graduate course held annually at Harvard Law School.

He is a Senior Associate at the Public Conversations Project (PCP) in Watertown, MA. This organization, directed by Laura Chasin, LICSW, is devoted to fostering dialogue and mutual understanding on hotly polarized political, social, economic and religious controversies. In 1997, the Society for Professionals in Dispute Resolution gave PCP its Mary Follett Award for Innovative Contributions.

A charter member of AFTA, Dr. Chasin has also served AFTA as Vice-President and as Chair of the Nominations and Publications committees. Along with Laura Chasin, Carol Becker, William Madsen & Sallyann Roth, fellow AFTA members at the Public Conversations Project, he received AFTA's award for Innovative Contributions to Family Therapy in 1999.
