Carmen Knudson-Martin, Ph.D.

Carmen Knudson-Martin, PhD, is a Professor and coordinator of the PhD program in Marital and Family Therapy at Loma Linda University in Southern California. She is nationally recognized for her work regarding gender, marital equality, and relational health. Her recent publications include “Moving Beyond Gender: Processes that Create Relationship Equality” in the Journal of Marital and Family Therapy , “Gender and Sexual Orientation in Marital and Family Therapy” in Family Relations, “Gender and Biology: A Recursive Framework for Clinical Practice” in the Journal of Feminist Family Therapy and “Relational Orientations: A Framework for Assessment and Practice” in Family Process.
Carmen is an associate editor of the Journal of Marital and Family Therapy and on the board of directors of the Family Process Institute. She is currently president of the California Division of the American Association for Marital and Family Therapy. Her book “Transforming Power: How Couples Move from Gender Legacy to Gender Equality” is forthcoming from Springer.
Carmen mentors many new professionals in family therapy and is interested in the New Generation Initiative as a means to building AFTA’s future.
