AFTA NEWSLETTER SEEKS NEW EDITOR-IN-CHIEF
1. Why do we ask now?
Volker Thomas will complete his term as Editor of the Newsletter in June, 2002.
2. When does the new Editor begin?
AFTA needs and Editory-in-Chief to serve officially starting July, 2002, in time to plan and publish the
Fall 2002 issue. The usual term is 4 years.
3. What qualification do you need?
- Editorial/Publication experience.
- The capacity to develop and work with an editorial and production team.
- Enthusiasm, creativity, dedication, and some acquaintace with the broad rang of issues of concern to the membership
4. What do you get?
An exceptionally rewarding experience. An opportunity to stay uniquely in touch with AFTA and the family therapy field. The Editor
attends all AFTA Board meetings and has a ringside seat from which to observe our rapidly developing field.

6. What are the next steps?
If you decide to apply, you will be asked to submit a one-page application. The remainder of the application process includes
interviews with Marcelo Pakman (Publications Chair), and Volker Thomas (current Editor).
Have Your Own Voice and a Team Experience
You will have the opportunity to work with a team of your choosing, one that
complements your own talents and experience, in creating the Newsletter.
If you maintain the current process, they will work with you in establishing regular
"columns", in selecting the theme of each issue, and in naming a possible guest
editor and authors to write about it. You will have an opportunity to express your
own voice either on the issue's theme or on other matters of your choice. You will
oversee and participate in the layout and desktop publishing production process.
You will also have considerable independence, reporting only to the Publications
Chair and to the President.
Receive AFTA Support
Since the Newsletter is the only
formal official publication of AFTA, you will have the assistance of the Washington office
in publishing AFTA business, such as the minutes of Board meetings and member address changes.
While we hope that the Newsletter will be entirely a volunteer membership effort, AFTA recognizes the
special responsibilities of the Editor in Chief and pays general editorial expenses up to $1,000. AFTA also
pays specifically for equipment, Board travel expenses, telephone and mail costs, advertising commissions,
and for some professional editorial and/or some production assistance. AFTA pays all Newsletter printing and mailing fees.
